Strong, inspirational, different... On eighth March, Women’s Day, we’re proclaiming that every one of us in unique in herself.
So we’re celebrating Womankind with Alek Wek, the activist model and Sudanese refugee, an inspirational woman who unveiled new beauty standards when she appeared in the ‘90s. Today, she works as a goodwill ambassador for UNHCR.
From the very start, she knew how to unveil and promote her main value: “nobody defines me better than I do”. She knows the key to success lies in originality and difference, and she celebrates herself every day.
Her message to all women is optimistic. It focuses on education and the inclusion of men as part of the solution.
“I never saw my kind of beauty in magazines, but my mother always told us that we were incredible and strong, that we had to respect ourselves and others. That’s where beauty comes from, that’s where strength comes from.”
